Pont úgy, mint aki 30 éve ugyanoda jár dolgozni, bár közben a gőzkalapács mellől a digitális ketyeréket összeszerelő üzem futószalagja mellé került.”
A 2003-as WAT az utolsó épkézláb lemez.
Ez a zenekar el van baszva. Kár értük.

1. Trip-hop acid folk under jazz attack. On the one hand the story has begun in 1979 when Ágnes Zsigmondi – singer of Hungarian underground folk band Kolinda – illegally left her homeland and went to live in Paris because her band’s music was not suit for the Hungarian one party state standards so they could not published any records while they released albums in France where she met American jazz drummer (of Sam Rivers and Archie Shepp) Stephen McCraven. Their son MAKAYA McRAVEN was born there in 1983 and has become a drummer. His new mixtape album HIGHLY RARE released now. It was recorded „just days after the death sentence of the American presidential election” when INTERNATIONAL ANTHEM RECORDS invited some jazz musicians into a bar in Cihacgo to play in support of sets by Belgian DJ LeFtO

6. BACK TO THE ROOTS OF INDIE POP
„The great liberating album for our generation was London Calling by the Clash. At a time when the post-punk mob seemed to be removing more color, texture, and beauty from their music with every passing week, London Calling was a revelation, taking us back to reggae and soul and everything that was possible” – said Pat Fish
who formed the band JAZZ BUTCHER in Northampton in 1982 when a friend lent him a compilation album of 70s soul hits, he got a vision of a new way forward, and wrote the song “Partytime”, a three-and-a-half-minute repudiation of post-punk’s sonic and verbal tendencies toward deadly seriousness.
They made four albums for Glass Records between 1983 and 1986. The jacket notes on the dusty tome that recalls this period mentions private detective television series Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased), Thatcher, DIY post-punk, LSD, surrealist cabaret, The Velvet Underground, a bottle of Cointreau or two, the Amstrad 7090 and Ronco’s ‘Black Magic’ compilation. These first four were released in a box set as THE WASTED YEARS on FIRE RECORDS this year October. And now here are the four VIOLENT YEARS in a box set that compiles their next four albums, originally released on Creation Records between 1988 and 1991. The song Looking For Lot 49 is taken from their ’88 album Fishcotheque.
In 1995 they retired in protest against Britpop, American actor Chris Evans and their own frustrating inability to unseat the government of John Major. But nowadays they play as the Jazz Butcher Quartet with ace trumpeter Simon Taylor. Next show > March 1st London 100 Club

8. Italian artist Giovanni Dal Monte aka LA JOVENC from the other side of music. One of his albums “Birds make love with electric ladybugs” initially was imagined as an exhibition of photographs of insects and landscapes and the entire music was composed using samples of insect and bird sounds. But now here is a transposition of an ode from his brand new album MATER on SONATA BOTANICA and ATMOSPHERE RECORDS which contains transcripts of midi scores of renaissance music of Palestrina, De Pres, Ockeghem, Taverner, Encina, Lemlin, etc. It reminds me Laibach’s Bach cover album Kunst der Fuge.

10. THE GREEN CHILD is the collaborative project of Mikey Young from Aussie new wave punk Total Control and Raven Mahon from American indie garage rock Grass Widow. The band’s name was inspired by Herbert Read’s 1935 utopian, anarcho-communist sci-fi novel called The Green Child. The story begins in 1861 with the faked death of President Olivero, dictator of the South American Republic of Roncador, who has staged his own assassination. He returns to his native England, to the village where he was born and raised. On the evening of his arrival Olivero notices that the stream running through the village appears to be flowing backwards, and he decides to follow the water upstream to discover the cause. The stream’s course leads Olivero to a mill, where through a lighted window he sees a woman tied to a chair, forced by the miller to drink the blood of a freshly slaughtered lamb. But at this moment we are under of influence of 80s synth pop on a cold, foggy and rainy day when their debut album released on UPSET THE RHYTHM RECORDS (UK)

The Yugoslavian underground was very strong and rampant in the last decade of the South Slav confederacy with many great and strange artists like the Slovenian Laibach, Borghesia, the Serbian Disciplina Kicme, the Montenegrin Rambo Amadeus, the Croatian Satan Panonski, the Hungarian Bada Dada, and lots of others. But I heard about Macedonian underground artists nothing. Until recently when the various artists album „Magare i muzika” (Donkey and Music) has been released on BALKAN VELIKI RECORDS.
It’s a surprisingly good and colourful album about the Macedonian underground from indie pop new wave via psych-folk punk to electronic beats. And exception of Dj Zdena – who played at RNR666 Party in Budapest – and Bernays Propaganda – who makes tours in Europe often – there are totally unknown artists for me. But there are not just Macedonian artists like the Croatian Lutajuci Dj Zdena or the English Membranes because they were also released by BALKAN VELIKI. And at the moment I have realized that hc-punk jazz fusion band Mnjenje is Serbian. So this album represents a wider region, what means the ex-Yugoslvaian underground is strong and rampant. But unfortunately there are two horrible hard rock songs in the middle of the album:
Anyway, I was curious about the Macedonian people, and it has turned out they are descendants of orthodox Slavs who did not run away and did not become Greeks, Bulgarians or Serbs during the last 150 years. After waves of different national proselytization some of them realized that anyway they are Macedonians. At first officially the separate Macedonian ethnicity was recognised by Communist International in 1934 because Soviet Russia wanted to use the network of Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization to revolutionize the Balkans. Funny, that year the organization was banned and dissolved in Bulgaria where it was state within the state. But after this they could manage to kill the Yugoslavian king and – if he already was there – the French Foreign Minister in Marseille same year within the framework of Croatian – Italian – Hungarian cooperation.

In my mind there are some cases when a band suddenly changed radically its style. For example when hc/punk Beastie Boys changed to hip-hop in 1983. When new wave synth pop Ministry became an industrial metal act around 87. When Metallica lost himself in 90. When one of the most thrilling thrash metal bands Voivod made a psychedelic rock album Angel Rat in same year. When industrial band Laibach became a successful cover band first, and then became a synth-pop band during the years gradually. And now here is the long awaited new Lantern album Black Highways and Green Garden Roads. And as if it were made by an other band.
After their sensational wild rock’n’roll album they have released an easy, almost distortion free, sometimes dark psychedelic folk rock album, „taking ideas from the work of Hieronymus Bosch, Carl Sagan, and Mikhail Bulgakov”. „It’s an exploration of the natural world and the cosmos, and a celebration of the wonderful, the serious, and the absurd.” They also said that it’s a result of many oversteeped pots of black tea.
It was recorded at The Bottle Garden, a home studio in Montreal filled with vintage gear and an array of instruments during 22 non-sequential days over a year and a half in 2013/14. More so than previous recordings, it is a collaborative effort born of studio improvising and collective exploration. They used new, unfamiliar instruments, such as organ and kalimba, and they experimented with tape loops and group harmonies.
Really fine songs – except for the cover version of Solomon Burke’s Cry To Me from 1962. It’s a mistake, just like the Rolling Stones’ version. (Listen to the original one.) The songs come Roy Orbison, 60s Rolling Stones, psychedelic era Voivod, and Illés (Hungarian beat legend) to my mind. And there is the bass theme of Dead Kennedys’ Holiday in Cambodia in the song We Are Here:
But the album is too long. And unfortunately badly edited, so it is hard to listen from first to last. It would have been better if there an LP with 10 songs and an EP with 4 (He Is A Pinball; Wait, Wait; Cry To Me; We Are Here Again) had been released.
